In this guide
Morocco's best arrival airport depends on your itinerary: CMN is the main connecting hub, RAK serves Marrakech, AGA suits Agadir and Taghazout, FEZ serves Fes, TNG serves the north, and RBA serves Rabat.

Choosing by the cheapest fare alone can create a long transfer at the start or end of a trip. Compare the airport code, first destination, onward transport and return route together. Flight schedules and airport services change, so this guide links to the operator pages travelers should recheck before departure.

What are Morocco's main airport codes?

The Office National des Aéroports (ONDA) publishes Morocco's official airport network, IATA codes and airport information. These six airports cover the decisions most international leisure travelers need to make:

Code Airport Best suited to Planning note
CMN Casablanca Mohammed V Long-haul arrivals, connections and itineraries using the national rail network Main Royal Air Maroc hub; compare onward TNR, bus and official taxi options
RAK Marrakech Menara Marrakech, the Atlas and trips beginning in central Morocco Usually the most direct arrival for a Marrakech-first itinerary
AGA Agadir Al Massira Agadir, Taghazout and the southern Atlantic coast Confirm the final road transfer with the accommodation
FEZ Fes-Saïss Fes and itineraries beginning in the northeast interior Useful when an open-jaw trip starts or ends in Fes
TNG Tangier Ibn Battouta Tangier, Asilah, Tetouan and the north Compare with ferry arrival if the wider trip includes Spain
RBA Rabat-Salé Rabat and capital-region stays Flight choice can be narrower, so compare CMN plus rail as well

Use the ONDA airport network as the source of truth for codes and airport contact details. If the trip includes a ferry or overland arrival, the Spain-to-Morocco guide compares that route with flying.

Which Morocco airport should you choose for your itinerary?

Start with the first two nights and the final night, not the country name. A direct flight into the region you plan to explore can be worth more than a lower fare that adds another intercity transfer.

Itinerary shape Airport to compare first Useful alternative
Marrakech and nearby Atlas trips RAK CMN only when the flight or wider route clearly justifies the transfer
Casablanca, Rabat and rail-linked northern cities CMN RBA or TNG, depending on the first stop and live flight schedule
Agadir, Taghazout and southern Atlantic coast AGA RAK when flight availability outweighs the road transfer
Fes-first trip FEZ CMN with an onward rail plan
Tangier, Tetouan, Asilah or Chefchaouen TNG CMN with an onward train, or a ferry where appropriate
Multi-city trip Different arrival and departure airports A return from the same airport if one-way logistics cost more

An open-jaw ticket can remove backtracking, but compare the full fare, luggage terms and final transfer before deciding. The Morocco itinerary guide helps map arrival and departure points to the actual route.

What should travelers know about Casablanca airport (CMN)?

Casablanca Mohammed V International Airport, code CMN, is Morocco's largest airport and Royal Air Maroc's principal hub. ONDA's final 2025 report says CMN represented 32% of national airport traffic that year; an earlier December release put its traffic at 11.5 million passengers. Passenger totals change, so compare only figures that name their reporting year.

ONDA's current arrival page confirms train access from the airport's arrivals area, an official taxi service and on-site car rental. Terminal assignments and airline desks can change, so check the flight or airline rather than relying on a permanent “long-haul terminal” rule.

CMN is in Nouaceur, outside central Casablanca. Travelers connecting onward should build time for passport control, baggage, terminal navigation and the next transport departure. A same-day rail connection may be practical, but a schedule should never be promised without checking the travel date.

Is the CMN airport train the Al Boraq high-speed train?

No. ONCF identifies the airport link as the TNR Casablanca–Mohammed V Airport service. Al Boraq is the separate high-speed service on the Casablanca–Tangier corridor. Travelers may connect between services at the appropriate Casablanca station, but the train beneath CMN should not be described as an Al Boraq airport station.

The captured airport timetable effective 15 September 2025 showed approximately hourly service, and ONCF's February 2026 Ramadan notice also described an hourly pattern. Those are dated records, not today's timetable. Use ONCF's live schedule page for the travel day and leave enough margin for a changed departure.

ONDA launched a CMN Aerobus to Casa Port on 2 December 2025. This release review could not confirm a current frequency or fare from the live passenger page, so launch-day operational numbers are deliberately omitted. Check the current Aerobus page before building a connection around it.

What should travelers know about Marrakech airport (RAK)?

Marrakech Menara Airport, code RAK, is the direct airport for Marrakech. ONDA's official access page lists taxi and bus options, but availability, stops and fares should be checked on that page or at the signed desk on arrival. Do not rely on older fixed taxi tariffs or Bus 19 timetables without a current official notice.

Use the official rank rather than accepting an unsolicited offer inside the terminal. Ask the accommodation for its current recommended drop-off point, especially for a riad inside or near the medina where a vehicle may not reach the door.

If you plan to collect a car at RAK, read the driving in Morocco guide before booking. A vehicle may be useful after leaving Marrakech, while airport transfer plus later collection can be simpler for a medina stay.

When are AGA, FEZ, TNG or RBA better choices?

AGA is the airport to compare first for Agadir and Taghazout. The last leg is still a road transfer, so confirm pickup arrangements and late-arrival access with the accommodation.

FEZ can prevent backtracking when a multi-city itinerary begins or ends in Fes. TNG is the natural flight gateway for Tangier and much of northern Morocco; it also belongs in a wider Spain-and-Morocco comparison. RBA is convenient for Rabat when its live flight schedule fits, but CMN plus rail may offer a stronger alternative.

Do not rely on a static list of airlines or destinations for any of these airports. Routes can be seasonal, frequencies change, and an airport appearing in a booking engine does not guarantee a practical connection on the required date. Check the airline and airport operator immediately before purchase.

Which airlines and connections should you compare?

Royal Air Maroc is Morocco's flag carrier and has belonged to the oneworld alliance since 1 April 2020. Its CMN hub is relevant for domestic and international connections, but alliance benefits, baggage through-checking and protection during separate-ticket connections depend on the exact booking and status rules.

Compare flights on total journey quality:

  • arrival airport and ground transfer to the first stay;
  • whether every segment is on one protected ticket;
  • checked-baggage and cabin-baggage rules;
  • terminal or self-transfer requirements;
  • seasonal schedule and connection margin; and
  • departure airport at the end of the itinerary.

A long route list becomes inaccurate quickly. Use the airline's booking system and ONDA's flight information for the actual travel date rather than treating examples in an article as a schedule.

How should you get from a Moroccan airport to the city?

The right transfer depends on arrival time, luggage, group size, destination and whether the service is operating that day.

Option Best when Verify before choosing
Airport rail Arriving at CMN during operating hours with a useful onward connection Station, last train, destination station and connection time
Official airport bus The stop serves your destination and luggage is manageable Current timetable, fare and final walking distance
Official taxi Door-to-door transport matters or public transport is not practical Official rank, displayed fare process and payment method
Pre-arranged transfer Late arrival, several passengers, child seat or difficult riad access Named provider, meeting point, total price and cancellation terms
Rental car The onward route genuinely needs a vehicle Documents, insurance, vehicle inspection and parking

CMN's official arrival page and each airport's ONDA page should override an old fare table. App-based ride availability and licensing should also be checked locally rather than assumed from a named brand.

What should you expect at passport control and customs?

Entry permission is nationality-specific. Morocco's official tourism site says the maximum tourist visit is generally 90 days, but that does not mean every passport holder is visa-free. Check Visit Morocco's formalities page and the linked Accès Maroc portal for the passport being used.

At arrival, follow signs for passport control, baggage reclaim and the red or green customs channel. Keep the address of the first accommodation and return/onward-travel information available if requested. Entry decisions rest with the authorities, and an airline may separately check documents before boarding.

Cash, food, medicines and restricted-goods allowances should be checked with the Moroccan Customs authority before travel. Do not rely on a fixed allowance copied from an undated travel article; use the notice that applies on the travel date.

What should you do if baggage is delayed or a connection is missed?

For missing checked baggage, contact the airline or its baggage-handling desk before leaving the reclaim area and request a Property Irregularity Report (PIR). Keep the report number, baggage receipt, boarding pass and receipts for reasonable essentials. The applicable reimbursement or compensation rules depend on the itinerary, carrier and cause, so do not assume one blanket EU rule covers every arrival.

For a missed connection, contact the operating airline or ticketing carrier. Whether rebooking, meals or accommodation are owed depends on whether the flights were issued together and why the disruption occurred. A travel insurer may require written confirmation from the airline.

Airport storage, lounge access, Wi-Fi and bank services can change by terminal. Verify each one on the airport and provider pages rather than planning around an old SSID, fee or lounge name.

In summary

Choose a Morocco airport by the itinerary it serves, then verify the live flight and ground connection. CMN is the main hub, while RAK, AGA, FEZ, TNG and RBA can eliminate unnecessary backtracking. At CMN, remember that the airport train is TNR, not Al Boraq.

Frequently asked questions

What is the main airport code for Morocco?

Morocco has several international airport codes rather than one country-wide code. CMN is Casablanca Mohammed V, the largest airport and main connecting hub. Other important codes are RAK for Marrakech, AGA for Agadir, FEZ for Fes, TNG for Tangier and RBA for Rabat.

Which airport is best for Marrakech?

RAK, Marrakech Menara Airport, is normally the first airport to compare for a Marrakech-based trip. A cheaper fare to CMN can still cost more once the onward journey is included. Compare total travel time, baggage, arrival hour and the transfer to the accommodation before booking.

Which is Morocco's largest airport?

Casablanca Mohammed V Airport, code CMN, is Morocco's largest airport and principal aviation gateway. ONDA's final report says it represented 32% of national airport traffic in 2025; an earlier December release reported 11.5 million passengers. Use the year with either figure because annual totals change.

Is there a train from CMN airport to Casablanca?

Yes. ONCF operates a TNR service between Mohammed V Airport and Casablanca. It is not the Al Boraq high-speed airport train. A timetable effective September 2025 and a February 2026 notice showed approximately hourly service, but neither is a current departure promise; verify the time on ONCF for your date.

Can you leave CMN during a layover?

Only if your passport and travel documents permit entry and the available time safely covers immigration, baggage rules, transport, security and the airline's boarding cutoff. There is no universal “six-hour rule.” Confirm entry status and ask the airline whether checked baggage and onward boarding permit the plan.
