Morocco Airports & Flights: CMN, Marrakech, and 6 Other Hubs (2026 Traveler’s Guide)

Morocco’s 19 ONDA-run airports cluster around two main hubs: Casablanca Mohammed V (CMN) for long-haul, and Marrakech Menara (RAK) for European tourist traffic. Royal Air Maroc is the flag carrier; visa-free arrival applies to 70+ nationalities for 90 days.

If you’re flying to Morocco for the first time, the practical questions are almost always the same: which airport should I fly into, how do I get to my hotel from there, and what happens at passport control. This guide answers all three, plus the small things — Wi-Fi codes, ATM locations, lost-luggage procedure — that nobody tells you before you land.

What are Morocco’s main airports?

Morocco’s civil aviation network is run by the Office National des Aéroports (ONDA), a state-owned operator that manages all 19 commercial airports across the country. The official portal is onda.ma — useful for live flight schedules, terminal maps, and contact numbers.

The six airports tourists actually use are:

Airport IATA City Passengers/yr
Mohammed V International CMN Casablanca ~10 million
Menara RAK Marrakech ~6 million
Al Massira AGA Agadir ~2.5 million
Ibn Battouta TNG Tangier ~1.5 million
Saiss FEZ Fes ~1.2 million
Rabat-Salé RBA Rabat ~500,000

CMN handles the long-haul flights (New York, Montreal, São Paulo, Dubai) and most connecting traffic; RAK is Europe-heavy with leisure carriers like Ryanair, EasyJet, and Transavia dominating slots. If your trip starts in Marrakech and ends in Marrakech, fly into RAK directly — it’s a 15-minute taxi from the medina vs CMN’s 200-km drive south.

Casablanca Mohammed V International Airport (CMN) — the main hub

Mohammed V International Airport sits 30 km southeast of Casablanca’s city centre, in the town of Nouaceur. IATA code: CMN. ICAO: GMMN. It’s Morocco’s largest airport by volume and the country’s primary international gateway, handling roughly 10 million passengers per year across two main terminals.

Terminal 1 is the long-haul terminal — North American flights, Gulf carriers (Emirates, Qatar, Etihad), and intercontinental Royal Air Maroc routes. Terminal 2 handles European short-haul and most domestic flights. The two terminals are connected by a short walking corridor; transit between them is unproblematic during a layover.

The signature feature for traveler routing is the direct rail link. The Al Boraq high-speed train station sits underneath the terminal complex, with services to Casablanca centre (~35 min), Rabat (~1h 10m), and Tangier (~2h 10m). Train fares from CMN to Casablanca centre run around 50-70 MAD ($5-7). It’s the cheapest and most reliable route into the city.

Marrakech Menara Airport (RAK) — the tourist gateway

casablanca airport - Marrakech Menara Airport (RAK) terminal with Atlas Mountains backdrop and aircraft on tarmac
Marrakech Menara Airport (RAK) — distinctive arabesque-tiled façade, 6 km from the medina. Atlas Mountains visible on the horizon.

Menara Airport is the easiest landing of any in Morocco for a first-time tourist. IATA: RAK. The airport sits 6 km southwest of Marrakech medina — a 12-minute taxi ride to the souks at Jemaa el-Fna, with no ring-road traffic to navigate. It handles ~6 million passengers/year, almost entirely European leisure traffic plus some Middle Eastern routes.

The terminal building itself is architecturally distinctive: a long, low arabesque-tiled façade with traditional Moroccan geometric patterns on the exterior. It’s been progressively expanded since 2008 (Terminal 1 + Terminal 2), with another renovation underway as of 2024 to lift capacity to 14 million by 2030.

Practical notes: taxi prices from RAK to the medina are regulated by a posted tariff — typically 70-100 MAD daytime, 100-150 MAD after 22:00. The official taxi rank is just outside arrivals — ignore drivers who approach you inside the terminal. Bus 19 connects RAK to Jemaa el-Fna every 30 minutes for 30 MAD; useful if you have light luggage and time.

Other Morocco airports worth knowing: Agadir, Fes, Tangier, Rabat

Agadir Al Massira (AGA) is the southern beach-and-surf gateway, ~25 km east of Agadir city. European leisure carriers dominate; very limited intercontinental service. Transfer time: 30 min by taxi (150-200 MAD).

Tangier Ibn Battouta (TNG) is the northern hub serving the Mediterranean and Spain connections — Ryanair from Madrid, Iberia, and a Royal Air Maroc Paris/Brussels link. The airport sits 15 km southwest of Tangier centre (20 min taxi, 150 MAD).

Fes-Saiss (FEZ) handles flights from Paris, Madrid, Brussels, and a growing roster of low-cost carriers. Located 15 km south of Fes medina. Transit to the city is straightforward — taxi (150 MAD) or the Bus 16 (20 MAD).

Rabat-Salé (RBA) is the smallest of the international hubs, with limited flights mostly to Paris. Convenient for business travel into the capital. 10 km north of Rabat centre.

“Pick your airport by destination, not country. Marrakech-only trip? Fly RAK. Casablanca + Tangier + Fes circuit? CMN, then internal trains. Beach holiday in Essaouira or Agadir? AGA. Trying to game the cheapest fare into ‘Morocco’ as a country usually adds 4 hours of driving to your trip.” — Anass Aouni, Tangier

Who is Royal Air Maroc — and which airlines fly to Morocco?

casablanca airport - Royal Air Maroc Boeing tail with distinctive red star logo on tarmac at golden hour
Royal Air Maroc tail with its signature red star — Morocco’s flag carrier and the only African airline in the oneworld alliance.

Royal Air Maroc (RAM, IATA code AT) is Morocco’s flag carrier, founded in 1957 and based at CMN. It joined the oneworld alliance in 2020 as the alliance’s first African member, which means American Airlines, British Airways, Qatar Airways, and Cathay Pacific frequent flyer miles all work on RAM routes. The fleet is mainly Boeing 737s, 787-8/9 Dreamliners, and ATR 72s for domestic routes.

RAM’s CMN hub serves most of West Africa (Dakar, Abidjan, Bamako, Conakry), North America (New York JFK, Washington Dulles, Montreal, São Paulo from 2023), the Middle East (Dubai, Doha, Jeddah), and 30+ European cities.

Other airlines flying to Morocco regularly: Air France, Iberia, KLM, Lufthansa, Brussels Airlines, ITA Airways, Turkish Airlines, Emirates, Qatar Airways, Etihad. Low-cost carriers heavy on RAK and TNG: Ryanair, EasyJet, Transavia, Vueling, Wizz Air.

US routes specifically: Royal Air Maroc flies non-stop JFK ↔ CMN (~7h 30m) daily. Connections via Paris, Madrid, Frankfurt, and Amsterdam offer more frequency and often cheaper fares with Star Alliance / SkyTeam carriers.

How to get from the airport to the city

casablanca airport - traveler with rolling suitcase walking towards official taxi rank outside Morocco airport arrivals
Official taxi rank at a Moroccan airport — always use posted-tariff taxis from the rank, not drivers who approach you inside.

You have four options at every major Moroccan airport:

Official taxis. Posted tariff at the airport entrance. Always take the official rank, not drivers who approach you inside the terminal. From CMN to Casablanca centre: ~250-300 MAD daytime, 350-400 MAD night. From RAK to the medina: 70-100 MAD daytime, 100-150 MAD after 22:00.

Aerobus / public buses. Cheapest option. CMN has L19 / L20 shuttle service to Casablanca Casa-Voyageurs station (40 MAD, ~50 min, every 30 min). RAK has Bus 19 to Jemaa el-Fna. Tangier and Agadir have similar lines. Look for the “ALSA” signage at the bus rank.

Train (CMN only). Al Boraq high-speed + ONCF regional. The CMN ↔ Casa-Voyageurs train runs every 30 minutes, 30-40 minutes journey, 50-70 MAD. Connects directly to Rabat (1h 10m), Tangier (2h 10m), and Marrakech (3h on ONCF).

Ride-hailing apps. Careem and inDriver operate in Casablanca, Marrakech, Rabat, and Tangier. Glovo doesn’t do rides. Uber does not operate in Morocco since their 2018 withdrawal.

What to expect at customs and passport control

casablanca airport - hand stamping passport at Morocco customs and border control entry
Visa-free travelers get a 90-day entry stamp on arrival. No paper form, no extension paperwork.

Passport control at any Moroccan airport follows the same flow: disembark → passport queue → baggage claim → customs (red/green channel) → arrivals hall. Allow 30-45 minutes from gate to taxi for a smooth arrival at CMN, more if you land during peak slots (07:00, 14:00, 22:00) when long-haul flights cluster.

Visa-free arrivals apply to 70+ nationalities including US, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and all EU countries. Your passport is stamped on entry for a 90-day stay, no extension paperwork needed. You don’t need to fill out a paper arrival form; the immigration officer scans your passport, asks a question or two (“first time? business or tourism?”), and stamps.

Customs: Morocco enforces standard declaration rules — no more than €10,000 cash equivalent without declaration, no alcohol above duty-free limit, no pork products through customs into the kingdom for personal commercial import. Personal-use alcohol is allowed up to 1 litre under the standard duty-free quota. Pharmaceuticals in original packaging for personal use are fine.

The red/green channel system is in operation but lightly enforced; if you have nothing to declare, walk through green. Sniffer dogs are present at CMN T1 for arrivals from West Africa and some long-haul routes.

Lost luggage, missed flights, and other airport problems

Things go wrong at airports. Morocco’s procedures are similar to anywhere in Europe.

Lost luggage: go straight to the Lost & Found (also signed as Bagages Egarés) counter, which is in the baggage claim hall before you exit through customs. File a PIR (Property Irregularity Report) — you’ll get a reference number. Most lost bags arrive on the next flight from the connecting airport within 24-72 hours. Keep all baggage tags, boarding passes, and the PIR number; airlines reimburse essentials (toiletries, basic clothing) for delayed-baggage delays beyond 24 hours under standard EU261/Warsaw conventions when applicable.

Missed flight or connection: head directly to the airline counter in the departures hall. Royal Air Maroc has a 24-hour service desk at CMN; other carriers have varying hours. Rebooking on the next available flight is the default; if it’s the airline’s fault (mechanical, delayed inbound), they cover hotel + meals.

Power banks in baggage: standard IATA rules apply — lithium power banks must be in carry-on, not checked. Up to 100Wh free, 100-160Wh with airline approval, above 160Wh forbidden. RAM and most operators are strict.

Storage at airports: there’s no official luggage storage at any Moroccan airport. If you need to leave bags during a long layover, the alternative is private services like BoxSpot in Casablanca and Marrakech (city-centre lockers, app-based).

Practical airport tips: Wi-Fi, ATMs, lounges, layovers

Wi-Fi: CMN, RAK, and AGA have free Wi-Fi (“ONDA-WiFi” SSID, no password, sometimes registration via SMS). Speed is variable — adequate for messaging and email, slow for video calls. Fes and Tangier have similar setups.

ATMs and currency exchange: every international airport has both before and after the arrivals customs line. ATMs include Attijariwafa Bank, Banque Populaire, BMCE — most accept Visa, Mastercard, and major bank cards with a ~22 MAD foreign transaction fee. Exchange counters typically offer rates within 2-3% of mid-market. Do not exchange large amounts at the airport — bank ATMs in city centres give better rates.

Lounges: CMN Terminal 1 has the Casablanca Lounge (Priority Pass, oneworld Sapphire/Emerald, Diners Club LoungeKey). Terminal 2 has Pearl Lounge (Priority Pass eligible). RAK has the Atlas Lounge (Priority Pass). Day passes available at all three for around €30-40.

Layovers: Morocco grants visa-free transit to most nationalities — you can leave CMN during a layover if you have 6+ hours and your destination is visa-free. Quick visit to Casablanca’s Hassan II Mosque from CMN is doable in a 6-hour layover (45-min taxi each way + 1-2h on site). For shorter layovers, T1’s airside has cafés, a duty-free zone, and prayer rooms.
